Luca was a fantastic captain and host. His boat looks exactly (if not better) than the pictures, in great condition. He took us on a four hour tour of the island of Ortigia and stopped on a few good spots for us to go for a swim and drink some Prosecco. He was very kind and accommodating. All in all, great experience with Luca! Would go back again.
Great experience, the boat was in near new condition and even better than the photos. It’s in a great location to experience the coast of Syracuse Would highly recommend
Syracuse is a south eastern Sicilian town located in the Inoian coast of the island. From its old fishing harbour to the historical sites, it's a glamorous town with authentic Sicilian culture. Rent a boat in Syracuse and explore the mesmerising coastlines, go fishing or even explore the incredible sea life by going snorkelling. There are plenty of things to do in Syracuse, with many activities you can try and a lot of sunshine if you rather just relax. It’s a great place to rent a boat, with Catania being just a little bit to the north and some fascinating spots to explore south of the town.
Sicily has great weather all year round, with a Mediterranean climate, the sun is out all the time. The warmest season is definitely in summer, this is also when most tourists visit as it is the high season. With more tourists during this season, it can be quite difficult to find available boats if you haven’t booked in advance. The prices are usually a lot higher too because of the demand.
A great time to rent a boat in Syracuse would be off high season, maybe in spring or fall. These seasons still host great weather and have a lot less tourists coming to visit the town. These are the ideal seasons to hire a boat in Sicily in general.
You can find really good deals on SamBoat if you wish to hire a boat in Syracuse. For a starting price of around 70€ per day you can rent a motorboat. For a sailboat, you can hire one for around 200€ per day.
Make sure you complete the reservation in advance as prices increase during summer. So if you plan on cruising in Sicily, beware of higher demand and less boat availability during the high season.
In Italy, you don’t need a boating licence if you rent a sailboat and you don’t plan on going further than 6miles from shelter. You can also rent a motorboat if the power of the boat’s engine is less than 40 HP. If you do go further than 6 miles away from the shelter or if the power of your boat is greater, authorities might ask you to show a valid boating certificate.
We strongly recommend that you pass a boating licence. For instance, you could get the ICC (International Competence Certificate) that allows you to operate a boat in most European countries.
Syracuse is a small town south of Sicily. The island is a compact paradise for visitors who wish to charter a yacht. With tons of activities to take part in, whether you like to spend time relaxing on the beach, going snorkelling or even going hiking.
You could drop anchor in Catania and go hiking up Etna, Europe’s most fascinating volcano. Or even visit some historical sites and appreciate the beautiful view!
