Sibenik is best known for its historical monuments giving itself the medieval image. In recent years, it has grown in popularity giving itself a strong reputation in the nautical world. Even though it has undergone plenty of change in recent years, you can still find the ancient city walls and historic streets. Sailors are finding that renting a boat in Sibenik is the perfect alternative to the busier ports of Split or Dubrovnik. Charter a yacht from Sibenik and discover the perfect combination of the old town and the new.
Depending on the time period of your project, the prices will vary accordingly. For catamarans, on average you can expect to pay 450€/day, with the high season being a bit more. Sailboats will be at a lower price point with an average of 300€/day. For motorboats, it will depend on the activity and the purpose. If you want to partake in water activities, then you'll need a more powerful boat, or if you just want to sail along the coast for the day, a small motorboat will be perfect. Either way, you'll have plenty of options and motorboats start at a lower price point of 150€/day.
Since the port of Sibenik is not as large as other ports in Croatia, booking in advance will be very beneficial. If you're planning on a yacht charter from Sibenik, our advice would be to start your search as early as November to ensure you get the boat that meets your specific needs. The first to go are usually the catamarans so be sure to keep this in mind. If your goal is to rent a motorboat, then a few months before the departure date should be enough.
The area of Sibenik has the same sailing season as the rest of Croatia. For the best sailing months, you will have to go between April and June or in September and October. The busiest tourist months will be in July and August. Even though Sibenik is an up and coming destination, it is on the rise in popularity so expect these two months to be full of people. Outside of July and August, you'll find the temperature to be rather mild and the wind will be calm, perfect for a week on a boat with less crowd.
When chartering in Šibenik, you will need to present a few documents if you plan on renting a bareboat. For all charters, you will have to present a valid license, a VHF certificate and a nautical CV. This will have to be both shown to the base manager and the port authorities. For motorboats, you will also have to have a valid license regardless of the size of the boat. If you do not possess a valid license, most of the boats are available to rent with a captain, especially the yacht charters. If you do possess a valid boating license, but are not comfortable renting a bareboat, then renting a boat with a captain would be your best choice. Another positive aspect to this is that the captains are local from the area and know the region very well, so they will be able to show you the hidden gems of Šibenik. The places that you wouldn’t go normally and even when the city is crowded you could escape to the secret locations.
