We LOVED our experience with La Isla Tour! Jose was fantastic, and the captain got us up close to many whales. It was a bonus having a photographer onboard who took wonderful shots of the wildlife and our group. HIGHLY recommend this company!
Great boat, competitive price, amazing crew! Celebrated my birthday on this yacht. Gil and company truly made it a memorable day!
When choosing your boat rental, Mexico is a great place to start your sailing journey with its lengthy coastline which faces both the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California, as well as the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
Mexico is located in Central America, making it a popular tourist destination for visitors from the USA. Most famous for its yacht charters in the city of Cancun, Mexico is the go-to place for luxury sailing holidays and events. While Cancun is the most famous sailing destination in Mexico, other lesser-known destinations such as Puerto Vallarta and the Sea of Cortez offer just as beautiful scenery and beaches and may be the perfect boat rental trip for you.
Prices average around £400-£800 a day for motor or sailboats, with on average sailboats being less expensive. For a week in Mexico during the peak season in the winter months, prices go as low as £2545, but average about £3000 to £5000, while in the off season, prices average about £3000 to £4000. These prices vary however, due to the type of boat and the time of year you want to go.
As Mexico is a very popular boating destination, there is a range of different boats available on the SamBoat website, including Yachts, Catamarans, Sailboats and Motorboats. Due to the popularity and demand for these boats in this area, we recommend booking your charter up to six months to a year in advance. As low season spans from April to July, it is recommended to visit during April and May, when hurricane season is only just approaching so the risk of it raining is not as high as during the summer months, with costs also being lower all-round compared to the winter months.
It is also important to note that with Cancun being a very popular destination for college students, Spring Break (depending on the College) usually takes place towards the end of March, during which Mexico, but Cancun in particular, will be extremely busy and will require even more time in advance to book your boat rental.
Whether with a captain or not, no license is required to rent a boat in Mexico, however, it is important to note that Mexico has strict fishing laws, so you must obtain fishing licenses for any person regardless of age who is planning on fishing on your boat as well.
Known for its incredible culture, unique cuisine and its beautiful beaches, Mexico is one of the most visited countries in the world. Due to the large stretches of coastline, Mexico quickly became the place to go for yacht charters and sailing holidays in South America.
Some popular places to charter yachts and rent boats include the Sea of Cortez, Isla Mujerers, Cozumel, La Paz, Puerto Vallarta and of course Cancun. The natural swimming holes in Mexico also make sailing holidays the perfect choice for swimmers, snorkelers, and divers, who want to explore the cenotes and see a wide variety of sea creatures who reside in the area.
While in Mexico, make sure you take the time to try the world-famous cuisine in the place it was originated, with popular dishes including tacos, tostados, tamales, and tequila for the adults. Mexico is also the home of Chocolate, with vast cacao plantations stretched across the country to visit, which makes the perfect day trip.
With summers averaging 29°C, Mexico’s famous white beaches are the perfect place to spend your day sunbathing and relaxing, while their crystal-clear water is the perfect place to swim or get your heart racing with the different water sports offered, either on your boat rental or during your day trips.
Cancun is the most well-known boating destination in Mexico, known for its luxury yacht charters, but also the great day trips, like the Mayan Ruins of Chichén Itzá or the El Rey Maya Ruins, as well as the nightlife. However, there are a lot of other places to explore by boat including the Sea of Cortez (also known as the Gulf of California) which is the perfect destination to visit for a day out by boat, known for its broad amount of sea life including tuna, marlin, and dorado, which makes it the place to go for fishing in Mexico on your boat rental.
Another great destination is Isla Mujeres, a small island where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea and is the place to visit if your perfect holiday is a laidback and relaxing one. Among some of the attractions on the island is the MUSA Underwater Museum and a Turtle Sanctuary. Some other must-visit places include Cozumel, located just off the east coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, a place rich in history and known for its snorkelling, diving and sport fishing, and La Paz, the traditional town located close to the well-known city of Cabo, which offers local artwork exhibits around the city, different hikes in the Sierra Laguna Mountains for the sports enthusiasts and opportunities to spot animals such as Whales and Sea Lions.
