We had an amazing experience with DYC. The whole trip ran so smoothly. We had a great captain on the boat, Ana. We were able to go to every island in our itinerary. The boat was in great condition. We even got a last minute upgrade to a bigger boat!

The Navigare team was friendly and responsive. We had some minor trouble but it did not interrupt the trip and the team was great.

Pricing and when to rent a boat in the British Virgin Islands

The one great thing about the BVI boat rentals is that sailing season can be all year round depending on your project. Typically the high season will run from December to April with the islands being pretty busy. During this period, you'll find plenty of regatta's and stronger winds. Going into June, the winds will start to let up and everything will be more peaceful. Keep this in mind when you plan as the high season will have the highest number of tourists and the ports will be much busier.

Keeping this in consideration, the pricing will be different throughout the year. If you plan on sailing during the high season, the prices will average about 500€ per day for a catamaran rental in BVI or around 400€ a day for a sailboat. Depending on your project, you can either rent the boat with captain or as a bareboat depending on your qualifications and experience.

Do you need a license to sail in the BVI?

For yacht charters in the BVI, no license or certification is necessary. Although nothing is required, it is strongly recommended to have previous experience dating back no more than 5 years. You will need to present a nautical CV detailing the previous boats you've captained, as well as what waters you previously sailed. If you plan on renting a catamaran, you will have to have experience with a similar boat with a similar length.

Information about sailing in the BVI

With your sailboat rental BVI, you will most likely start your from Tortola, with its protected reefs. The island is characterized by its numerous boat-filled harbors. With incredible mountain ranges and beaches, the capital island has plenty to boast. The crystal clear waters along with its dream like scenery will instantly make you want to prolong your stay. Water activities are by far the most prominent thing to do on the islands. The waters are perfect for snorkeling and diving, and some of the most beautiful beaches are only accessible by sea. Rest assured you’ll find exactly what you want on one of the 40 islands.

This tourist destination enjoys a tropical climate with the summers being hot and sultry, whereas the so-called winter months are warm, mild, and pleasant. The overall tropical climate is also affected by the trade winds.

The average daily temperature is around 28 degrees ℃ during peak summer, from May to October. During the rainy season, the tourism spirit is slightly dampened by moderate showers, thunderstorms, and on rare occasions by hurricanes (from August to October). The winter season – from December to March – is comparatively cooler with the average daily temperature around 24-25 degrees ℃.

The tropical paradise receives maximum rainfall from September to November. The BVI is driest from January to April – the perfect period to rent a sailboat and go boating.

Considering the different seasons, the best time to sail is from December to April. These five months receive negligible rainfall, enjoy mild and pleasant weather, and experiences moderate wind speeds, which combine to provide perfect conditions for sailing. The only problem you'll have is planning your itinerary. Whether you choose to rent a bareboat or a captained boat, you'll have a lot of choices on your sailing holidays. We recommend a minimum 7 day journey with your BVI catamaran rentals to get to know the area as the average rental period is usually 10 days.

If you're looking for similar destinations, people that sail in the BVI usually also sail in Martinique. You can easily spend a week sailing around this beautiful tropical island. Rent in Road Town and explore the 350km of coastline it offers with varying landscapes and endless beauty.
