Boat availability in Belize

Prices will be higher, and crowds will be busier in Belize’s tourist season, from December to March. During these months the weather is warm and pleasant, and it is a great escape for US and UK tourists in the cold winter months especially. These months are also the dry season, which means you are less likely to be caught in a rain shower, however, availability will be lower. That said, Belize is not a very popular tourist destination, so you don’t need to book too far in advance. In the off-season, there is more chance of rain which can mean activities and events may get cancelled, however these rain showers usually only last around 2 hours at a time. That said, the weather in these months can also be very uncomfortable, being very humid.

Overview of Belize

Belize is filled with colour and life, particularly in the water. One of the most popular places in Belize is the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a protected area with an incredible diving and snorkelling experience, due to the array of marine wildlife, from coral, seagrass, and mangroves, to fish, sharks and rays. Some other amazing snorkelling areas include the Swallow Caye Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can swim with manatees or one of the many cayes. If you want to learn more about Belize wildlife, visit the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Centre, which house only native Belize species that are orphaned and unable to survive in the wild.

For a unique experience, try caving in Actun Tunichil Muknal, the most sacred cave in the world, where it is believed human ritual sacrifices used to be held, and marvel at the diverse ecosystem, including bats, crabs and crayfish. If you want to explore more of the ancient world, visit some of the Mayan ruins, such as the Xunantunich Mayan Ruins, where you can explore the ruins in a less crowded place than in other countries.

For the thrill seekers, try cave tubing, through the Maya underground, filled with stalactites and stalagmites, fire pits, wall cavings and more. If you would rather explore the forest, zipline near the Caves Branch Park, or descend down the black hole drop, a sinkhole at the edge of the Actun Lock Tunich. For a less extreme activity, try horseriding through the forest, or canoeing on the Mcal River and admire the orange orchards and different flora and fauna.

Belize is filled with people from many different cultures, and these cultures can all be seen through some of the popular festivals and events. The influence of the Caribbean and Central America can be felt in festivals such as Lobster Festivals, the international Costa Maya Festival, Independence Dat, Carnival and more.
