The ideal way to discover the Costa Brava is by boat during a 7 day trip starting from Empuriabrava. This part of the Catalan coast is famous for its typical Mediterranean landscapes, its mild and sunny climate. Between strolls, idleness and idyllic landscapes, you will surely spend a dream week when renting a boat in the Costa Brava!
Day 1: Depart from Empuriabrava
Also known as the Venice of Spain, Empuriabrava has the largest marina in Europe, with 25 kilometres of canals. With its big port, chartering a yacht from Empuriabrava will give you plenty of choices to choose from. When the weather is nice, it is ideal to rent a bike and ride around the canals. Take the bicycle path along the beach and pass through the Aiguamolls de l’Emporda Natural Park, which is one of the most important natural parks in Catalonia.
For this first day, also take time to get to know your sailboat or catamaran. Take advantage of the base manager and find out the ins and outs of the vessel. When renting a boat in the Costa Brava, you’ll likely depart the next morning so take advantage of settling in this night. Once you are ready, sail quietly to Aiguablava.
Day 2: Empuriabrava → Aiguablava
15 nautical miles, 3 hours of sailing
Further south, approximately 15 nautical miles away, you will find the heavenly sandy beach of Aiguablava, in Bégur. The south of Aiguablava has a path leading you to the port of Fornells with other small coves that are just as charming.
The port has a total of 10 mooring buoys. Described as romantic and restful, the area is perfect for diving and resting.
Day 3: Aiguablava → Palamos Marina
8 nautical miles, 1.5 hours of sailing
It is 8 nautical miles to the south that your stopover on this third day of the Costa Brava itinerary is located: Palamos. This is the first fishing port. It is also possible to learn how to cook fish according to the local tradition.
The Palamos Marina offers a total of 862 berths. Water, electricity, fuel: all refuelling will be possible. You will have no difficulty in finding a place to eat. Moreover, it is important to note that there is a launderette near the port.
Day 4: Palamos → Marina Port of Blanes
19.4 nautical miles, 4 hours of sailing
The city of Blanes has a rich natural and historical heritage. In addition to having beautiful beaches and coves, various traditional events take place there throughout the year. Don’t miss the colourful botanical gardens of Blanes, especially those of Marimurtra and Pinya de Rosa, considered the most beautiful in Europe.
As for the port, you won’t be disappointed with the welcome and services on offer. It offers a total of 309 berths. Please note that the draught should not exceed 7 metres.
Day 5: Blanes → Cala Maset
13.6 nautical miles, 2 hours 45 minutes of sailing
Heading north, anchor with your rental sailboat or catamaran in the charming cove of Cala Maset. Here, absolute peace and quiet is guaranteed.
The port of San Feliu des Guixols is just a short distance away. A few restaurants can be found there and you can take a stroll there if you need supplies.
Day 6: Cala Maset → L’Estartit
21.4 nautical miles, 4 hours of sailing
Leave early in the morning because more than 16 miles separate you from L’Estartit. Once there, let yourself be seduced by one of the three main beaches or the many picturesque villages around the town. For the more sporty, L’Estartit offers many water activities, including windsurfing, snorkeling and diving.
Completely renovated, the port of L’Estartit is only 1.5 miles from the famous Medes Islands, known for their great beauty. The islands are classified as nature reserves and we advise you to sail there if you have time.
Day 7: L’Estartit → Bay of Cadaqués and return to Empuriabrava
15.2 nautical miles + 9.7 nautical miles (5 hours total sailing time)
Last stop of this itinerary in Costa Brava is in Cadaqués, a pretty fishing village where you will spend the night. Once your boat is moored, enjoy the stroll along the seafront and the many restaurants. An ancient gastronomic capital, you’ll be sure to delight your taste buds! As a little bonus, you can even visit Salvador Dali’s old house.
The bay of Cadaqués cannot accommodate sailing boats longer than 12 metres at mooring. The next day, set sail for Empuriabrava, with your head full of memories, where your cruise ends.
