By Kanika from SamBoat - June 15, 2023

If you are looking for the perfect destination for your next boating getaway, Miami might be the place for you. With its location in the US and its proximity to Latin America, Miami is unique in its culture and experiences and is a once-in-a-lifetime place to visit. If you need convincing on why Miami is one of the best places to visit on your next trip, here are 5 reasons why sailing in Miami could be perfect for you.

Beaches

While Miami is known for its incredible music scene, nightlife, and festivals, if there’s one word, to sum up Miami its ‘beaches’. With several amazing beaches for every type of beachgoer, with endless sun and sand, spending a beach day in Miami is an unmissable experience. One of the most famous beaches in Miami is South Beach, a stone-throw away from Ocean Drive and known for its colourful lifeguard houses and proximity to the Art-Deco sector. With the beaches on Miami Beach all being quite close together, it is easy to find a private spot on these beaches and easy to travel between these beaches with the Miami Beach boardwalk. If you would rather not spend the day at Miami Beach, which is primarily uncovered, there are many other beaches and coves where you can relax and unwind and enjoy all Miami has to offer.

Nightlife

Miami during the day might be known for its beaches, but the night-time activities in the city are no less popular. Miami’s nightlife is a reason why many people choose to visit the city, with spring break in America being one of the most popular times to visit. With many different clubs, bars, beer gardens and cocktail bars, there is so much to explore during the nights in Miami. Miami is home to some of the most unique clubs and bars in the world, such as the famous LIV nightclub which often hosts A-list celebrities, or the iconic Ball and Chain Cuban bar which dates to the 1930s.

Food

Spending your days chilling on the beach and your nights dancing in some of the best nightclubs in the world can leave you hungry, and the food in Miami is no less a spectacle than everything else in the city. With a large influence from Central America and the Caribbean, the food has strong links to that, however, the city also has a lot of its own unique specialities. One such is key lime pie, which was created just further down the coast in the Florida Keys, which is an easy dayboat or weeklong charter trip from Miami and a great place to spend your time. Other popular dishes include a Cuban sandwich, or green plantains, with there also being a lot of seafood incorporated into meals due to the nearby ocean. The neighbourhood Wynwood hosts a popular food market every week, where you can try food from all over the world, from Korean hot dogs to their world-famous lobster rolls.

Events

With Miami’s beaches and nightlife, it is no wonder that many event organisers see Miami as the perfect city to set up their festivals and events, which can be some of the most exciting days out you will ever experience. One popular event that Miami is home to is the boat parties, which can be sometimes hosted in small groups on smaller boats, or large gatherings on superyachts. Boat parties are one of the best ways to spend your day in Miami, but it is important to learn the do’s and don’ts of boat party etiquette before you board. Other events which often take place include Miami swim week, Miami Boat Show and Miami Pride.

Spanish Culture

One of the most interesting parts of Miami is how unique the city is compared to the rest of the US. Due to Miami’s proximity to Latin America, there is a large influence of that culture in Miami, specifically Cuban culture, which can be seen throughout the city, particularly in neighbourhoods such as Little Havana and Little Haiti. A lot of the locals in Miami speak Spanish, and the culture can be seen in areas such as the Calle Ocho Walk of Fame, which pays tribute to many big stars from Latin America, or the Cubaocho Museum which offers a chance to immerse yourself in Cuban culture. You don’t even have to go out of your way to see this type of culture, with the influence being seen in the food, coffee, and art throughout the city, which is what makes Miami sometimes known as ‘The Capital of Latin America’.
