We sailed around the island of Santo Stefano. In the south of the island there are beautiful bays for swimming. In the north, between Stefano and La Maddalena, the sea was very rough today

We had a very good experience with this rental company. Mirko is very friendly and takes the time to explain everything thoroughly. We had a beautiful boat and received clear instructions on where to sail and, especially, where not to sail. We can therefore definitely recommend this rental company.

We had a very nice boat ride! The boat had everything that was needed for the local conditions and we were instructed very well by Carmine. Carmine was also very honest and fair with the gas that we consumed during the day. We would book anytime again!

My wife and I had an awesome experience. Everything went smoothly and they were very friendly. The Marina there is beautiful as well. There are many beaches you can visit that are close by. We were able to visit a few and cruise by La Maddelena. It was overall a great experience.

Chartering a Yacht in Sardinia

Sardinia is one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean for sailing. This beautiful island in Italy is full of hidden gems with its small coves and quiet and secluded bays. By renting a boat in Sardinia, you will be able to fully explore these small paradises that are far from the usual tourist beaches known to all. La Maddalena is the island’s largest port and is the ideal starting point for your boating trip around the island, you could also start your trip by renting a boat in Porto Rotondo.

Only 20 minutes from the Sardinian port of Palau, you’ll find yourself in paradise surrounded by translucent waters. Stop at the main center of Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, and admire its beautiful bays with incredibly turquoise waters. Only a few kilometers further you will discover the island of Caprera, where we advise you to anchor at the port of Porto Palma. The island is full of beautiful and unusual landscapes, boasting fine sand beaches and pink granite rock. Sardinia yacht charter is popular during the summer, rent your boat in Sardinia in advance so you can enjoy the sailing.

When to Sail in Sardinia

The sailing season in Sardinia follows the typical Italy boat rental season with May to September being the high season. Most sailors will acknowledge that the best time to sail is in the later summer as the water becomes the perfect temperature. The month of October and even May can be a bit cooler so if you want to experience Sardinia's signature weather, you should go in June, July, August and the beginning of September. The winds are present throughout the season and are quite strong so the waters are geared for those with some experience. While being able to see the beautiful weather of the months of July and August, also keep in mind this is peak season and tourists will flood up on Sardinia. If you don't mind this, then it's a perfect time to travel. Also keep in mind that if you're chartering for a week, you'll be able to explore on your own and find the hidden coves and beaches away from the masses. Rent a boat in La Maddalena for an amazing sailing holiday

Information and Pricing in Sardinia

The pricing is highly affected by the season in which you would like to rent. When chartering a yacht in Sardinia, you can expect to pay on average of 450€ a day for smaller catamarans in Sardinia and 550€ a day for larger catamarans during high season. For sailboats in Sardinia, the price point is lower with newer sailboats starting at 350€. Regarding the availability, you should start planning your trip in November or December as most of the inventory decreases getting closer to the high season. Beginning in March, only 35% is left so booking well in advance will put you at ease and will ensure you get the right boat for your sailing project.

For motorboats, the price will depend on your specific needs. In Sardinia, you'll have the choice of renting a motorboat based on your desired activity. We recommend playing with the filters until you find the boat that best suits your needs. For all motorboats, we recommend booking the boat at minimum of 2 months in advance. Sardinia is one of the most popular destinations so be sure to plan your trip well ahead.

Do you need a license to hire a boat in Sardinia?

If you want to charter a yacht in Sardinia, you will need a license to rent a boat. If you're from an EU member state, your license will be automatically valid. If you're from outside the EU, we recommend getting an ICC which is validated by the United Nations. In addition, you will be asked to provide a nautical CV describing your previous experience and what type of boats you handled.

For motorboats, you will need a license if you rent a boat with more than 40 horsepower. Anything below 40 can be rented without a license.

Boating in Sardinia

In Sardinia, you'll find some of the best coasts to sail around. You'll find different characteristics depending on what part of the island you're on. If you're in the north, then rent a boat in Olbia and see the beautiful views or you can also rent a boat in Porto Cervo. A historic city in Sardinia, Olbia finds a way to keep its small village vibe with architectural wonders and views that will blow you away. If you're starting from the south, charter a boat from Cagliari and see the picturesque blue waters and the limestone rocks. The hills in the city centre provide some of the best views on the island so be sure you take advantage of Cagliari both on land and on the waters. Sardinia yacht charter with SamBoat will give you an incredible experience.

About Sardinia

Sardinia is an autonomous island of Italy and lies off the southern Italian coast; it is the second-largest island in the western Mediterranean. The island is full of rocky mountains from the Paleozoic era, and green nature covers the mountains. The highest point of the island is Mount La Marmora, which is over 2,000 metres high. Sardinia's climate is subtropical with rainfall during some months of the year. If you want to charter a yacht in Sardinia, we recommend you to look at the weather forecast beforehand. Sardinia yacht charter is pleasant when the weather is ideal. Rent a boat in Cannigione as a starting point of your trip for an ideal sailing adventure.

Agriculture, fishing and mining are the economic mainstays of the island. You will find several small villages in the interior and on the coast of the island. Hire a yacht in Sardina so that you can sail along the coast and get to visit the beautiful fishing villages. We recommend a visit to Portoscuso, a small town in the south of Sardinia with a well-equipped marina and interesting attractions. The locals are friendly and like to teach tourists Sardinian words.

Sardinia has several islands around, hire a boat and visit some of them. The island of Sant Antioco is the fifth largest island in Italy. Go to the town of Sant Antioco and stroll around its harbour and streets. Check out its archaeological museum and its basilica, you will have an experience rich in history. Visit the most important beaches, such as Cala Sapone beach has bars and restaurants and some water activities. Other option is to visit the beach of Cala Lunga, the most beautiful beach of the island with crystal clear and shallow waters.
